Peel the asparagus with a peeling knife so as to remove all the fibrous skin. Trim the hard bottoms. Bring salted water to a boil in a saucepan. Tie up the asparagus in small bunches with two threads, one in the middle and one around the lower ends. Soak in the boiling water, cook uncovered over a high heat for about 15 minutes. When the asparagus is cooked, drain, arrange on a dish. Put the eggs in boiling water, allow to cook for 3 to 3 1/2 minutes. Serve the eggs in egg cups along with the asparagus and the melted butter. Each guest will dip the asparagus in melted butter then in the soft boiled egg.
